For automatic testing of the magnetic penetrant, a test body (1) is used with artificial surface cracks (3). Magnetic penetrant is separated from the main circulation by a by-pass line (5) and fed over the test body to allow automatic process control. The line (5), made of quartz glass or similar, sits on top of the test piece so that crack indications form on the glass surface and can be viewed from above. Once the test piece (1) is demagnetized the penetrant flow within the test piece is sufficient to remove any crack indications. An Independent claim is made for a device for automatic process control of penetrant used in magnetic penetrant inspection.
