Soft capsules, based on swelling agent gel and starch mixture with component less branched than native starch, useful in food, medicine, veterinary medicine and agrochemicals, contains starch with specified degree of polymerization
Soft capsules comprise a gel of a starch mixture and a swelling agent, in which the starch mixture contains starch component(s), with a lower degree of branching than native starch, and may also contain native starch, at least one of the starch components has a Dp(N) (degree of polymerization, i.e. average number of glucan units/molecule) of over 100. Independent claims are also included for: (1) soft capsules of a gel of native starch with a high amylose content of over 70 wt.% and a swelling agent; (2) the production of soft capsules by homogenizing the starch mixture and swelling agent at temperatures over 160 deg C, molding the resultant thermoplastic gel to a foil, film or strip and then making the soft capsules by the rotary die process; and (3) the use of the specified gel for making soft capsules.
