摘要
In a flow analysis process to quantify and characterize total organic carbon (TOC), the sample substance is separated by liquid chromatography. Inorganic carbon is acidified and exposed to a carrier gas in a membrane-free de-gassing module, expelling CO2. Organic carbon is then oxidised to CO2 in an oxidation module, by ultra-violet light. A carrier gas is introduced to a non-membrane de-gassing module, expelling CO2. The CO2 liberated from the organic carbon is quantified by infra-red spectrometry. The oxidation module ultra-violet light wave length is in the range 200 - 250 nm, or in a vacuum at 150 - 200 nm. The mobile phase is exposed to UV light within a helical capillary tube lined with a UV-light permeable material which is molten UV emitter chamber.
