An aqueous coating compound, in particular containing an organic material, is applied onto a carrier strip (15) and passed through drying equipment with a number of drying zones. One or more of the drying zones is designed as a moisture balancing zone (11-14) in which air is supplied with a moisture content equivalent to the constant moisture content of the film or layer being produced. Independent claims are included for: (1) equipment for setting a constant moisture content in a coating on a carrier strip where the equipment has a drying zone with a fresh air supply system capable of maintaining the moisture content in the air at a constant level; and (2) drying equipment comprising at least one preheating zone(1-3), one or more drying zones(4-9) and further drying zones(10-14) acting as moisture balancing ones.
