Heating recycle and/or pyrolysis gas with the simultaneous material and energetic utilization of waste in a recycle gas cupola furnace comprises heating the furnace gas directly above or below the charging end to the start temperature or temperatures above the start of the low temperature pyrolysis; drawing the gas through the charge from above to below the furnace using the counter current principle; heating the gas components formed above the excess gas suction plane using added hot air and/or air- or oxygen-fuel combustion gases with the furnace gas flowing from above through the charge; mixing with the hot process gases originating from the melting and over-heating zone and further heating; and withdrawing as excess gas from the cupola furnace in the melting and over-heating zone. Preferred Features: Process gas is formed in the melting and over-heating zone by burning solid fuels with oxygen and/or air.
