Preparation of enantiomer-enriched N-acylated beta -amino-acids (I) by enantioselective catalytic hydrogenation of prochiral N-acetylated Z- beta -aminoacrylic acids (II) in polar solvent is carried out in the presence of a bis(diorganylphosphino)-alkane, -cycloalkane or -heterocycloalkane compound (III).
