The device has a balance beam (4) with a coil roll (7) holder (6) on one arm and a counterweight (10) on the other arm that is set to defined positions depending on the denomination to be checked. For use with Euros the center of gravity of the weighing beam is shifted away from the bearing (3) towards the counterweight so that predetermined distances from the bearing are significantly increased and the counterweight is correspondingly smaller.
