Helical cutting of holes in workpieces, involves rotating pulsed laser beam plane of polarization during beam movement so it is always at same angle to linearly machined cut surface
The method involves repeatedly guiding a laser beam in the form of linearly polarized laser pulses with a pulse duration of less than 1 nanosecond along a closed contour of the workpiece and thereby separating the workpiece on a helical cut line. The method involves rotating the plane of polarization of the laser beam during its movement so that it is always at the same angle to the linearly machined cut surface. An independent claim is also included for apparatus for helical cutting of holes in workpieces.
