The method involves observing and analyzing the slip characteristics of regulated wheels depending on the applied braking force and increasing a threshold set by a controler to above a predefined threshold level if the longitudinal force transfer at the wheel increases with increasing slip. The method involves measuring the rotation characteristic of each wheel and evaluating it as the input to a control system. A reference vehicle speed is formed by logically combining the characteristics of individual wheels and slip is limited to a predetermined threshold value by modulating the braking pressure and hence the braking force exerted on the wheels. The slip characteristic of the regulated wheels is observed and analyzed depending on the applied braking force and the threshold set by the controler is increased to above the predefined threshold level if the longitudinal force transfer at the wheel increases with increasing slip.
