The vehicle seat has a height-adjustable seat support (C22) fitted with a restraint belt for absorbing crash forces (FC). An adjusting element (C5) connected to a drive unit for adjusting the seat height is mounted inside a slide track (C30) of a holding element (C3) and one of the two elements is fixed on the seat support whilst the other is fixed on a base plate fixed on the body. Support (C31) is provided for supporting the crash force through the adjusting element itself or through an additional locking element connected to the adjusting element. The gearing elements of the drive unit gear (C62) are outside of the force flow of the crash force. The slide track is designed perpendicular to the drive direction so that the larger force part of the crash force vector acts perpendicularly to the slide track opposite the force part in the drive direction.
