Process for recycling excess water from a reformed gas produced in a reformer (2) comprises condensing the excess steam in the reformed gas (15). Preferred Features: The condensate (6) is passed through cleaning stages (13) such as activated charcoal filtering or ion exchange before returning to the process. The condensed water is fed back into the reformer as steam on high temperature heat exchange with the reformed gas. The temperature of the heat transfer medium is preferably 100-1000 deg C.
