The brakes can be acted upon by a first, remotely actuated pressure source driven by an electronic controller that produces a signal corresponding to a driver's deceleration demand in accordance with brake actuator operation. A transition from the first to the second pressure source is indicated by haptic signaling via the brake actuator. The wheel brakes can be acted upon by a first, remotely actuated pressure source driven by an electronic controller that produces a signal corresponding to a driver's deceleration demand in accordance with the operation of a brake actuator, preferably a brake pedal. The wheel brakes can be acted upon by the hydraulic pressure of a second pressure source operated by the driver. The driver is given an indication of a transition from the first, remotely actuated pressure source to the second, driver operated source by haptic signaling via the brake actuator.
