The method involves implementing a holding function in an integral brake system such that a brake pressure is actively built and is held in a rear wheel brake circuit (2). An activation condition is fulfilled, and a vehicle driver is haptically, acoustically, and/or visually warned in particular during existence of a completion condition, before the brake pressure is reduced or diminished and/or the holding function is terminated. The completion condition is an event or a situation with which the brake pressure for the driver is unexpected.
