The hinge unit has a support (6) fixed on the vehicle and hinge members linked in between the hinge support and bonnet for raising up the latter in the event of a collision. One of the hinge members is formed by an energy accumulator (4) with adjusting member (5) for easier lifting of the bonnet. The hinge members can be a hinge lever (2), support lever (3) and energy accumulator (4), with the energy accumulator and support lever supported on the hinge support and attached to the hinge lever which holds the bonnet.
