The device has a pantograph type hinge (1) forming an articulation for a bonnet i.e. front bonnet, of a motor vehicle, and arranged at the rear of the bonnet. The hinge is normally in folded position when the bonnet is locked. A deployment unit (2) unfolds the hinge when a frontal impact is detected. The hinge is provided with a movable edge (6) and two connecting rods (8, 9), where each connecting rod connects a fixed edge (4) to the movable edge.
