The road wheel(18) of the track mounted vehicle has a hub(28) with an annular flange(30), and an endless track chain(36) which is mounted elastically on the flange and has a continuous bearing surface around the road wheel. The annular flange of the hub has an annular slot which is defined around the circumference of the flange, and a number of spaced apart axially extending circular holes are defined in the circumference of the flange. An Independent claim is included for a road wheel for a tracked vehicle with an endless track chain elastically mounted on an annular flange on the hub.
