The object lighting system focuses light with different angles of incidence with respect to an optical axis. A light source is directed towards a concentric light cylinder and a pair of spaced reflectors (44,48) transforming the light to a concentric cone and focussed on a chosen point with respect to the object. The reflector spacing can be modified to vary the light incidence angle, including incidence angles below 20 degrees whilst maintaining the focussed cone.
