Capacitor charging system has a capacitor charger (100) with a capacitor (108). The charger is arranged to charge the capacitor by producing a current of a certain power with fixed frequency, and a signal shape of variable keying ratio. The circuit further comprises a diode (107) with the cathode connected to the capacitor and the anode connected to the charger. An Independent claim is made for a method for charging a capacitor with a charger incorporating a transformer where the transformer is driven by a current of fixed frequency and variable keying ratio.
