The measuring method uses a liquid level sensor (10) provided with a reception sleeve (11) depending into the liquid container, enclosing a level sleeve (20) and a reference sleeve (22) below the level sleeve, the level sleeve and the reference sleeve coupled to an electrical circuit providing a signal representing the liquid level. A series of signals are provided by the liquid level sensor using a test liquid and recorded, for providing information allowing the ratio of the measured level to the correct level to be determined, when the sensor is immersed in the measured liquid.
