The drive by step movement for a scooter, bicycle or pedal boat is connected with the drive wheel via a chain wheel, chain, pinion and nave. The vertical up and down movement of the tread lever arm is converted via connected intermediate pieces on the arm of the crank drive into rotary movement. Through different lengths of the intermediate pieces, the dead point is excluded. If required, the drive can be equipped with free wheel, brake and/or a gear change facility.
