The sensor element has 4 magneto-resistive layers (14,1,5,16,17),each exhibiting an electrical resistance altered by an external magnetic field, connected together to form a Wheatstone bridge. One pair of magneto-resistive layers lie in a first plane (10) provided by a first substrate, the other pair lying in a relatively angled plane (11) provided by a second substrate.
