The device has a conductor structure for carrying electrical current in a defined direction, a bearer body on which there is at least one superconducting layer (2a) and a shunt layer (2b) of normally conducting material and at least one intermediate layer (12a) between these layers. The intermediate layer is of different material than the shunt layer and provides a resistance of between 0.01 and 100 Ohms per square cm.
