The invention relates to a device and a method with which an adaptive fuel table (92) in a hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) can be completely adapted in a short time by means of an adaptive fuel strategy (88). In a preferred configuration, a generator (30) connected to the vehicle drive increases or decreases the torque in order to keep the engine speed constant during engine throttling.
