The rotor (20) is cleaned with an impulse of compressed air at a higher pressure than the machine air supply. The cleaning head (71) has a high pressure nozzle (76) supplied from a pressure vessel (8) fed by a pressure multiplier. The high pressure pulse can be applied after or during the normal, low pressure air, cleaning phase, or can be used by itself. An independent claim is also included for a similar process where cleaning of the yarn exit (21) and the yarn draw-off tube takes place at the same time by means of an auxiliary jet (77). The auxiliary jet (77) can be coupled to the high pressure or the normal pressure supply. The cleaning process is controlled through valves from the controller of the travelling service unit, where the pressure vessel and pressure multiplier are also located. The dislodged contaminants are drawn off through a suction tube (73), the opening (72) of which is elongated in a bow shape to match the rotor (20).
