The monitoring uses an on-board controller connected to a diagnostic system. Parameters (P1) relating to driving style are determined to estimate wear of particular components. Values of these parameters are automatically stored (P2) periodically in the diagnostic system. These parameters give a vehicle use profile (P3), which is used to generate an estimate of wear on different components.
