Process for ceramicizing a green glass (3) comprises: forming a green glass; levitating by introducing a levitating gas onto a levitating substrate (1.2); and heating using IR radiation until the desired ceramicization is produced. An Independent claim is also included for a device for ceramicizing a starting glass from a green glass comprising a levitating substrate for the green glass, and an IR radiating device for heating the green glass. Preferred Features: The IR radiating device comprises a radiation chamber with short wave halogen IR radiators having a coloring temperature of more than 2000 K. The levitating substrate is made from Al2O3, BaF2, BaTiO3, CaF2, CaTiO3, MgO, 3.5Al2O3, SrF2, SiO2, SrTiO3, TiO2, spinel, cordierite or cordierite-sintered glass ceramic.
