A perforating projectile (2) has a sub-caliber core (5) of a heavy material enclosed in a jacket (4) of a ductile material and fixed in place by clinching its ogival end (11). The core comprises a central cylinder (6) with a conical tip (7) at its forward end, and a truncated conical rear end (8). The jacket has a blind cavity (10) with a conical base (9) interacting with the rear end of the core to center it and leaving a gap (18) between the jacket and the core that tapers to a line (15) where the two meet. The outer surface of the jacket has a cylindrical bulge (12) to engage with the rifled barrel of the weapon.
