A warning triangle illuminated by a door contact is carried on an arm (3) attached to a barrel (8) able to rotate from a lowered retracted position when the vehicle sliding door (2) is closed to a horizontal position when it is opened. Retraction on door closing is effected by engagement between a projection (12) on the door and a ramp on the barrel and a spring (13) raises the signal arm to the horizontal operating position when the sliding door opens. The warning triangle has two transparent halves enclosing electroluminescent diodes.
