PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the melting loss resistance of a detecting bar and prevent the reduction in measuring precision accompanying the lapse of time by setting the dimension of the detecting bar to a specified value, and using a sintered body mainly composed of a high melting point metal in a specified ratio as the material of the detecting bar. ;SOLUTION: The dimension of a detecting bar 11 is set to a diameter 5-30 mm and a length of 100-400 mm. The material of the detecting bar 11 is a sintered body mainly composed of 60-80 wt.% of a high melting point metal such as molybdenum, vanadium or the lie, 10-30 wt.% of a ceramic such as zirconia, alumina or the like, and 10-20 wt.% of either one of graphite and baron nitride or a mixture of the both. Consequently, the melting loss resistance of the detecting bar 11 is enhanced to both molten steel and molten powder 3, and the life can be significantly extended. Thus, the molten steel flow velocity within a casting mold can be continuously measured over a long time, and the evaluation standard of molten metal flow within a casting mold for manufacturing a casted piece of high quality can be provided.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
