PURPOSE: To reduce a water head loss by providing a means for limiting water flowing upward via the rear side of a check ball, viewed from a secondary side open section. ;CONSTITUTION: A check valve 47 has a valve chamber 33, a bucket 49 as an enclosure, a check packing 51 and a check ball 53. In this case, the bucket 49 has an opening 57 on the front section 56 thereof with three rear sections 60 closed. As a result, a water flow above the ball 53 via the rear side thereof can be almost eliminated, thereby reducing a water head loss substantially. Furthermore, a vertical groove 65 is formed and, therefore, a trouble such as an ingress and stagnation of a foreign substance possibly contained in water between the ball 53 and the internal surface of the bucket 49, can be prevented, thereby ensuring freedom from defective water stop function. According to this construction, most of water flows toward the front of the ball 53 and, then, from the inside of the bucket 49 to a secondary side opening 48, or downward, while water hardly flows behind the ball 53.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
