PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To design an internal combustion engine with a less expensive running cost.;SOLUTION: An input part 11 is provided for collecting shapes of piston ring sliding faces 6-1 to 6-4, a shape of a cylinder liner sliding face 5, a feeding position of a lubricant 7 fed to the sliding faces, and a feed amount of the lubricant 7. A simulation part 12 is provided for deriving behavior of the lubricant 7 during driving of the internal combustion engine 1 provided with piston rings 4-1 to 4-4 and a cylinder liner 2 by simulation. A display part 13 is provided for displaying the behavior. The behavior includes movement of the lubricant 7 in a second direction different from a first direction of relative movement uL of a piston sliding face and the cylinder liner sliding face 5. A designer of the internal combustion engine 1 designs an optimum amount of the lubricant 7 to be fed to the internal combustion engine 1 or an optimum position of a lubrication hole 8 for the lubricant 7 on the basis of the behavior of the lubricant 7 derived by the internal combustion engine designing device 10.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
