PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accelerate inspection by carrying out inspection by both of painting color image processing, in which a painting color is extracted so as to be inspected and determined, and background color image processing, in which a background color is extracted to be inspected and determined. ;SOLUTION: In a color television camera 3, an image of a cylindrical axial lead wire type electronic part (cylindrical axial part) 1 is outputted as a color image signal 7 every time when an electron shutter is generated. A color extracting means 5 extracts both of a painting color extraction image 15 to which a painting color is extracted and a background color extraction image 15a to which a background color is extracted at the same time, and these outputs are fed to an image processing unit 6 via inspection effective frame gate circuits 22, 23. A painting color image processing unit 19 performs area inspection on the basis of the painting color extraction image 15 so as to determine whether it is good or defective, while a background color image processing unit 20 performs lateral length inspection of a silhouette image on the basis of the background color extraction image 15a so as to determine whether it is good or defective.
