PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gene PTB1 involved in arsenic tolerance, and to provide a method for recovering and detoxifying arsenic in the environment utilizing the gene.;SOLUTION: A protein inhibiting the expression of a transporter having high affinity for phosphoric acid, the gene PTB1 encoding the same, a method for giving arsenic tolerance by disrupting the gene PTB1, and a method for recovering and detoxifying arsenic using arsenic-tolerant algae with disrupted PTB1, are provided, respectively.
