PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inhibit the occurrence of inhomogeneous orientation in liquid crystal panels.;SOLUTION: In a liquid crystal panel P₁, is used a chiral smectic liquid crystal 2, particularly a liquid crystal that exhibits a phase transition sequence, starting from the high temperature side, an isotropic liquid phase (ISO.)-a cholesteric phase (Ch)-a chiral smectic C phase (SmC*) and the peak in the powder X-ray diffractometry (the peaks that shows the order of the positions of centers of gravity of liquid crystal molecules) is observed in the cholesteric phase. The use of such a liquid crystal can inhibit the occurrence of its inhomogeneous orientation.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
