PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately detect an amount of fuel actually injected in the combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine, to accurately regulate an amount of fuel to be injected based on the detecting result, and to quarantee quality of specified exhaust gas, in a method to detect an amount of fuel actually injected in the combustion chamber or an internal combustion engine and a method to control the fuel system of the internal combustion engine based on a result of the detection. PSOLUTION: The problem described above is dissolved by detecting a flow velocity (v) of fuel present in a medium connection passage running between a high pressure generating device and at least one injector or the injection nozzle of a fuel injection system or pressure pulsation and this constituting detects a flow rate of fuel flowing through a medium connection passage, and then by controlling the fuel injection system of the internal combustion engine based on a result of the detection.
