The method involves determining injection amount of fuel (3), which is injected by the injector (2) into the combustion chamber and the duration of injection window for injecting the fuel is also determined. The time-dependent injection pressure is computed at the beginning of injection window against the injector. The duration of injection interval is determined on the basis of computed duration of injection window at the beginning for essentially injected duration of injection interval at the end and injects the fuel in that with the duration of injection interval. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) internal combustion engine with a combustion chamber, an injector for injecting fuel into the combustion chamber and a high pressure fuel pump for producing a time-dependent injection pressure (2) software product in the memory of a digital controller of an internal combustion engine.
