PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a contents distribution charging system capable of conducting charging for causing less loss to users.;SOLUTION: A user terminal 10 selects a moving picture desirably to be rented on a contents selection menu received from a distribution server 20. The distribution server 20 refers to a distribution/charging information database 26 to check whether or not a user 1 has rented the moving picture in the past and interrupted the reception thereof, and returns the interrupt information to the user terminal 10 when the user 1 has interrupted the reception of the moving picture in the past. When the server 20 detects no past interrupt information, the server 20 directly transmits information to a contents server 30. The user 1 views the interrupt information menu and selects whether the user 1 starts the reception of the moving picture from the interrupted part of the preceding rental distribution, or starts the rental database from the beginning or receives no rental distribution. The contents server 30 distributes the information of the part selected by the user terminal 10. The distribution server 20 imposes charging on the user according to the distribution sum amount of information before the interrupt and after the interrupt.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
