PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an error correction encoder, an error correction, decoder, and a transmitter adopting an error correction system, which improve the encoding rate of an error correcting function to sufficiently improve the data transmission efficiency.;SOLUTION: A 1-bit signal of serial/parallel converted transmitted data is inputted to a convolutional encoder 2 and is divided into a real part and an imaginary part by a combination of two bits of the output of the convolutional encoder 2 and another signal which is not inputted to the encoder 2, and signal points for sending the real part and the imaginary part are determined independently of each other. On the receiver side, area determination and metric setting of the real part and the imaginary part are performed independently of each other, and the real part and the imaginary part are subjected to Viterbi decoding together, and the result of Viterbi decoding is inputted to a convolutional encoder having the same constitution as the encoder on the transmitter side, and transmission data is decoded from the output and information of area determination.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
