FEMORAL DISTAL END TREATMENT TOOL FOR ARTIFICIAL KNEE JOINT REPLACEMENT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve early healing and effective hemostasis for a reference hole bored in the distal end of a femur for mounting an alignment guide, relating to a femoral distal end treatment tool for use in unicompartmental replacement for artificial knee joint replacement.;SOLUTION: A boring tool 10 comprises a cylindrical blade formed at the lower end of a pipe 12 and a handle 14 secured to the upper end of the pipe. By striking the handle 14, an opening is bored in the distal end of the femur as the reference hole for mounting the alignment guide, with a bone piece left behind at the lower end of the pipe 12. A slit 17 in the lower end of the pipe 12 is aligned with a reference mark (a) on the femur during the boring of the reference hole. After surgery, the pipe 12 is inserted into the opening as the slit 17 is aligned with the mark (a), and the rod 20 of an extrusion tool 18 is inserted from the handle 14 until striking the bone piece inside the pipe 12. As the extrusion tool 18 is pressed, the boring tool 12 is drawn out, whereby the bone piece is embedded back into its original position in the femur A.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
