PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for detecting a compression top dead center of an engine to be tested capable of accurately detecting the compression top dead center without extending time necessary for detection process.;SOLUTION: Under a condition that a crankshaft 4 of an engine 1 is rotated in a regular direction by an external driving means 3, a first preparatory compression top dead center at which pressure in a cylinder gets the maximum in a cycle of an engine to be tested is detected based on detection value of pressure in the cylinder detected by a pressure detection means. Under a condition that the crankshaft 4 is rotated in a reverse direction, a second preparatory compression top dead center at which pressure in the cylinder gets the maximum in a cycle is detected and a crankshaft rotation phase at a center between the first preparatory compression top dead center and the second preparatory top dead center is defined as the compression top dead center.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
