PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect compression top dead center of an engine for test regardless of whether an injection nozzle or an ignition plug is installed or not.;SOLUTION: The engine for test having a suction valve 9 and an exhaust valve 10 installed thereon in such a manner that the valves open and close with rotation of a crankshaft is provided with a top dead center detecting means 5 detecting top dead center phase of the crankshaft and an exhaust gas pressure detecting means 16 detecting exhaust pressure in an exhaust gas passage 15 communicated with and connected to an exhaust port 14. Top dead center phase detected by the top dead center detecting means and before rise of exhaust gas pressure detected by the exhaust gas detection means 16 is detected as compression top dead center of the engine for test under a condition that the crankshaft is rotated by an external drive means.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
