Premixed lean diesel combustion was performed with fuel injection timing near top dead center. As a result, the lean and uniform fuel-air mixture can form with low cetane fuel (CN=19) in order to take a longer ignition period even the fuel injection timing was at 26°ATDC, low NO{sub}x combustion was realized. Furthermore HC was reduced because the fuel-air mixture that dispersed to a squish area decreased. This combustion could be possible when a conventional diesel fuel and EGR was combined. However ignition timing could not be adjusted to top dead center.
