PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a Y-branch optical waveguide which has uniform output characteristics, and a multistage optical power splitter. ;SOLUTION: The Y-branch optical waveguide which has a core as a transmission medium for a light signal and a cladding surrounding the core includes an input tapered waveguide which receives the light signal from a 1st end surface and outputs the light signal through a 2nd end surface and 1st and 2nd output tapered waveguides which are extended from the 2nd end surface of the input tapered waveguide and receives the light signal branched through the 2nd end surface and has a right-left asymmetrical structure symmetrical about the center line of the input tapered waveguide.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
