PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pitch data shifting device which correctly represents notes when a note given a temporary symbol is displayed in a musical score and a melody generating device which uses the device.;SOLUTION: When chord progression data of a specific keytone are shifted into chord progression data of a specified keytone, the degree between both the keytones having no temporary symbol is detected (B3) and when a temporary symbol is added, the semitone difference number between both the keytones is detected in the state as it is (B4). When a temporary symbol is added to constitution sounds of each chord constituting the chord progression data of the specific keytone, the pitch name of the constitution sound after the temporary symbol is deleted is shifted by the outputted degrees (B6), a temporary symbol to be added to the constitution sound after the shifting is so determined that the semitone difference number between the constitution sound having been shifted and the constitution sound before the shifting is the outputted semitone difference number, and according to the result, the temporary symbol is added to the constitution sound having been shifted (B7).;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
