Procedure for coloring porous stony material comprises precipitation of an insoluble colored compound on the internal and external surfaces of the porous stony material. This compound is produced by means of a chemical reaction of precipitation as a consequence of the movement of the cations and anions of the material through the porous stony material and submitting the material to the action of an electrical field in the interior of an electrochemical reactor. This forced migration enables the porous stony material to be colored by means of a direct precipitation reaction or by means of a reaction between an oxidant and a reducing agent in the material, with the formation of an insoluble coloring compound, followed, optionally, by a heat treatment in the presence of an oxidant.
