DENSIFIED FLOWABLE ROASTED AND GROUND COFFEE AND METHOD OF MAKING SAME

A flowable roasted and ground coffee product isprovided having a median volumetric ("X50") particle sizeof from 270 to 1100 µm, a density of from 0.5 to0.7 gm/cc and 30-41% by weight of which extracts whenbrewed. The product is in the form of aggregates ofgranular roasted and ground coffee particles having amaximum X50 particle size of 270 µm and is produced byforcing roasted and ground or roasted whole bean coffeethrough an orifice under conditions of pressure and shearsufficient to grind the coffee and to form the coffeeinto a dense mass of roasted coffee made up of thegranular roasted and ground coffee particles tightlybonded together. The dense mass of roasted coffee isthen reground to produce the roasted and ground coffeeproduct which is in the form of aggregates having an X50particle size in the range of 270-1100 µm, the aggregatesbeing made up of the granular coffee particles.
