The correction method of the inventionsynthesizes a distortion-free interferogram (or spectrum)from a measured interferogram, which has been distorted bydetector non-linearities, and a finite series oforthogonal functions derived therefrom. The coefficientsof the series of functions are selected with a prioriknowledge about the limited spectral sensitivity of theradiation detector, preferably with the method of Gaussianleast squares fit of observation, such that the resultingspectrum assumes the value of zero of the distortion-freespectrum outside of the sensitivity range, and infreely-definable ranges. The method of the invention can beused to correct detector non-linearities, as occur inFourier spectroscopy.
