A method and apparatus for timing recovery, wherein the difference between the value of the signal in a point between the strobe points ( i.e. the sampling instants where the decision concerning the value of the transmitted symbols is performed ) and the expected value at that point ( determined in the embodiment as the mean ot the levels amployed for transmission of the estimated previous and following transmitted symbols ) serves as the basis to calculate the phase error of the sampling clock (120) . This phase error can be filtered in ordered to recuce the jitter effects (127) before alying it to the VCO (130) .
