MBTH for aliphatic aldehyde measurement

摘要

A method for determining an aliphatic aldehyde based on the reaction with MBTH (3-methyl-2-benzothiazolinone hydrazine, CAS 4338-98-1) and the intermediate formation of an azine. The azine reacts in a second reaction with oxidised MBTH to form an intensely blue colored formazan. Ferric chloride is used as oxidant.;The end color might be different depending upon the order of addition of the reactants. If the oxidising agent and the MBTH are mixed before adding the aldehyde, a light green to green/blue is observed.
