PURPOSE: A metal matrix composite reinforced by shape memory alloy having superior mechanical properties by giving compression force to the composite material by using shape memory alloy fiber instead of ceramic fiber or filament as reinforcement, and a manufacturing method of the metal matrix composite are provided. CONSTITUTION: The metal matrix composite reinforced by shape memory alloy comprises an array in which a plurality of shape memory alloy filaments are arranged between two nonferrous metal sheets, wherein fraction of the shape memory alloy inside the metal matrix composite is 3 to 7 vol.%, the nonferrous metal sheets have a fusion point of 700 deg.C or less as an element selected from the group of aluminum, magnesium, zinc and alloy thereof, and the shape memory alloy is an alloy selected from the group of TiNi, NiAl, CuZn, FeNiTiCo, TiNb, MnCu and FeCrNi. The manufacturing method of the metal matrix composite reinforced by shape memory alloy comprises a step of arranging an array to a desired volume fraction by fixing both ends of a plurality of shape memory alloy filaments(2) to two clamps(5,5') which are fixed by distance adjusting bars(1,1') with the two clamps(5,5') are oppositely formed with being spaced apart from each other in a certain distance; a step of extending the shape memory alloy fibers(2) by adjusting the distance between the two clamps(5,5') using the distance adjusting bars(1,1'); a step of forming a composite body by positioning the extended shape memory alloy filament array between nonferrous metal sheets; and a step of performing shape memory heat treatment on the composite body at an austenite transformation temperature of shape memory alloy or more.
